Viruses Simplified

There are now over 6,000 viruses lurking out there today, waiting to infect your system.

  1. Best advice?
Restraint. Simply do not open any email from an unknown or suspicious source. These “sources” are the main ‘source’ of viruses! Delete all your junk mail and chain mail before opening. Don’t forward them to others. This “Spam” is intrusive and unsolicited and just clogs up the entire Internet.
  2. Be wary.
Even if you know the source but the attachment appears to be from another source and is being “forwarded” to you, refrain from opening the attachment. Some viruses can replicate themselves through email. If you must know what is being sent to you, call the source and find out what the attachment is.
  3. Never download files from strangers or “free offers” without consulting your PC Technician.
There are truly evil programmers out there hoping to infect you and shut you down.
  4. Never delete a file due to an email telling you to delete a file!
Consult your PC Technician before deleting anything on your system, of course other than “Spam”.
  5. Get Protected
Without Anti-Virus Software to protect your computer, you WILL get a virus, even when you take all the precautions mentioned. Many reputable Anti-Virus programs are available at any local electronics or computer outlets. Remember to update your Anti-Virus program monthly. Call us with any questions or assistance.
  6. Backup your files and hard drives monthly.
This deserves repeating…. Back up your files and hard drives! If a virus destroys or corrupts your files, you can reload the backed up files after the virus has been removed. Store your backup copy in another location and not on your computer. If you need help with this procedure… Call Steve or Robert or Tim!!
